Review

Choosing to have an 11 year collected by a large stranger on their eleventh birthday is a bold choice. It’s just begging for comparison to another just sightly well known series 😉 But this book holds it’s own and is very much it’s own story!

Nevermoor The Trials of Morrigan Crow

What made this book for me were the friendships and the secondary characters. Morrigan is strong and amazing, but I don’t think a story can stand on just a great main character. Jupiter, Hawthorne, and Cadence really added so much. The relationship dynamics are one of the best parts of the book! The author doesn’t just exceed in creating characters, she’s also a master at creating a setting. Hotel Deucalion, where Morrigan lived, has risen high on my list of literary destinations I’d like to visit!

The actual story to Nevermoor is fantastic as well and I greatly look forward to seeing the series progress. I did something I almost never do when I finished this book… I immediately started it’s sequel, Wundersmith. It did NOT disappoint. These are great fall reads, because there’s an eerie/creepy vibe at times. I listened to this on audio at the suggestion of @erindotsmith and it’s fantastic! It will definitely be a reread for me, because there is SO much packed in and I know I will get a lot more out of another go of it.

I really liked it and highly recommend it- the series may be in the Middle Grade fantasy genre, but these books can be enjoyed by adults and even those that aren’t even huge fantasy fans.
