Summary
Georgina has been unlucky in her work and her love life. When an opportunity comes up to bartend at a great new pub, she’s thrilled. It seems like the perfect new job with a likable boss until she learns who his brother and business partner is. Lucas was her first love. Now he’s standing in front of her a decade later- successful and heartbreakingly handsome while she’s insecure about her recent firing and breakup. It doesn’t help her ego that he clearly doesn’t even remember her.
Review
I adored this book! It started a bit slow for me, but then I quite literally could not put it down! I went into this story with the benefit of having read McFarlane and a few reviews beforehand, so I knew this would be more women’s fiction, not a romantic comedy and I am all for that. However, if you’re expecting a rom-com, it could fall flat.
I loved the characters in this book, the friendships, the setting, and the conflict. I especially loved our heroine, Georgina. She completely underestimates herself and I loved watching her grow and gain confidence. Having read McFarlane before, I knew that although I may think I know exactly what to expect, there will probably be some unexpected twists and turns along the way. This book might not be a rom-com, but it literally had me laughing out loud multiple times. There was something about the flow of dialogue that lost me a few times, but didn’t distract me from the story or change my overall feelings on the book.
I really liked this book and absolutely recommend it for those that are fans of romance with depth, such as Evvie Drake Starts Over or Katherine Center’s novels. Added bonus if you can keep up with the British humor, some of which went over my head I’m sure!
